# Online ordering for Liverpool takeaways and restaurants

Short answer: Liverpool has 733 takeaways on the FSA register, and 255 of them (35%) have yet to receive their first hygiene rating. That's the highest share of the cities we've looked at, and it points to a market full of new openings and changes of owner. For a Liverpool takeaway, standing out on trust and keeping regulars off the apps matters more than ever. Chefzi gives you your own ordering site with 0% commission: 3 months free, then £19 a month for cash or no-card payments, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe.

What stands out in Liverpool

A backlog of unrated businesses. Only 19% of Liverpool takeaways have been inspected in the last 12 months, and more than a third are still listed as "Awaiting inspection". Being unrated isn't a mark against you. But customers comparing two kebab shops on the FSA app will usually pick the one showing a number. If you have a good rating, show it on your ordering page. If you're waiting, use the time to make your allergen information and kitchen processes ready for inspection day.

Ratings are spread wider than the national picture. Among rated takeaways, 44.1% have a 5 and 13.4% sit at 0 to 2, against 61.9% and 5.8% across England. Liverpool ranks 30th of 35 North West councils with 50+ takeaways on the share of 5s. Put plainly, a 5 in Liverpool is a real point of difference, so make it visible.

Pizza is the loudest name on the high street. Going by names, pizza places (101) clearly outnumber fish and chips (50), Chinese (34), kebab (28) and Indian (26). That's a guide only, because 59% of names don't reveal a cuisine. If you're a pizza shop here, you're competing on deals and speed. A pizza ordering setup on your own page means a deal is not paying a marketplace percentage. Put the deal in the item name and price. There is no separate half-and-half builder.

Where Liverpool orders come from

L1, the city centre, has the most takeaways (89). Next comes L4 (80), Anfield and Walton, then L13 (Old Swan and Tuebrook), L15 (Wavertree and the student-heavy Smithdown Road area), L3, L7, L8 and L9. Together L1 and L4 account for almost a quarter of the city's takeaways.

When the roads close

L4 and the waterfront can be slow when roads are closed. This page does not list fixtures or official closures. If you trade in L4, L5 or L3 and you know a stretch of road will be shut:

  • Turn delivery off and leave collection on for that window. There is no switch that pauses a single zone.
  • Offer collection for a requested time.
  • Keep the promised time honest if the surrounding districts get busy.

The river sets the western edge

The Mersey is the city's western boundary, and the Wirral is a separate council area reached by tolled tunnels. Don't include CH postcodes in a city-centre zone unless you really want to drive through a tunnel for a £20 order.

Delivery zones for Liverpool

Liverpool's takeaways are fairly compact: 60% are within 2 miles of the centre point and 98% within 5. A practical starting setup:

  1. Core zone: your own district and its neighbours (for example L7 + L8 + L15), with a low fee.
  2. Second ring: the next 2 to 3 districts, with a higher fee and minimum order.
  3. City centre (L1, L2, L3): collection-first, or a short-radius delivery with clear apartment and concierge instructions.

You can set each zone's fee and minimum order by postcode district in Chefzi delivery zones, You can edit a zone when the roads change. To stop one area, remove that zone, or turn delivery off and leave collection on.

Late-night trading and licensing

In England, serving hot food or hot drink to the public between 11pm and 5am is "late night refreshment" under the Licensing Act 2003. It needs a premises licence from the council, which here is Liverpool City Council's licensing team, and that includes takeaway and delivery from your premises. Your licence sets your hours. Match your online ordering hours to it so customers can't order after you're allowed to serve.

How Chefzi helps Liverpool takeaways

Keep the apps if they bring you new customers, but give your regulars a direct way to order. Chefzi gives you a branded menu, a restaurant website, card payments, a kitchen app that rings until it's answered, QR codes for your bags and flyers, and 0% commission. It's 3 months free, then £19 a month for cash or no-card payments, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe. Already on GloriaFood? It closes on 30 April 2027, and we'll move your menu free.

Liverpool

Questions from Liverpool kitchens.

My shop is new and unrated. Can I still take online orders?

Yes. You must be registered with the council, but you can trade while you wait for a first inspection. Add your rating to your page when it arrives.

How do I cope with matchday traffic?

Use a temporary collection-only mode and longer prep times around kick-off. Bring delivery back once the roads clear.

Should I deliver to the Wirral?

Only if you have a driver based there or the order values justify the tunnel toll and the time. Most city takeaways leave CH postcodes out.

What does "late night refreshment" cover?

Hot food or hot drinks supplied to the public between 11pm and 5am, including delivery from your premises. A cold sandwich doesn't count. A hot pizza does.
