Momo dumplings in a bamboo steamer with tomato achar

Updated 27 October 2026 · By Arslan Munir

Nepalese and Gurkha restaurants are a familiar part of many UK high streets, and many run two menus side by side: Nepalese specialities such as momo, choila, sekuwa and dal bhat, and the Indian curry house favourites that regulars expect. Chefzi gives you one commission-free ordering page that keeps both menus clear.

Organising a dual menu

Customers who come for the Nepalese dishes should see them straight away, and curry house regulars should still find their usual order fast.

  • Lead with your specialities. Put a "Nepalese specials" section at the top: momo, sekuwa, choila, chow mein, thukpa and dal bhat sets.
  • Keep curries in familiar groups. Starters, tandoori, house curries, biryani, rice, breads and sides, in that order.
  • Explain unfamiliar dishes in one line. "Sekuwa: chargrilled marinated lamb with timur pepper" helps new customers order with confidence.

Momo as a menu item

Momo is the dish most people order online, and it has several choices that belong in option groups rather than in customer notes:

  • Filling: chicken, lamb, buffalo where you serve it, vegetable or paneer.
  • Style: steamed, fried, chilli, or jhol (in a soup).
  • Plate size: for example 6 or 10 pieces.
  • Dips: tomato achar is usually included; extra pots can be paid add-ons.

When the momo choices are all structured, the kitchen ticket reads "10 chicken momo, jhol, extra achar" rather than a free-text note someone has to interpret on a busy night.

Spice levels and set meals

Add a required spice choice to curries and grills. Nepalese food can be built hotter than customers expect, so a clear scale such as mild, medium, hot and "Nepali hot" saves complaints and remakes.

Thali and dal bhat sets are good value for customers and simple for the kitchen. Build them as fixed bundles with one or two choices, for example a choice of meat curry and pickle.

Delivery and collection

Many Nepalese restaurants deliver to surrounding towns and villages as well as their own high street. With delivery zones, you can draw areas on a map and set a fee and minimum order for each, so longer runs carry a higher minimum. Collection customers can schedule orders for later, which helps on Friday and Saturday nights when the tandoor is the bottleneck.

Orders in the restaurant

Chefzi POS is the free browser till included with your plan. Dine-in, phone and walk-in orders go into the same queue as web orders, so the kitchen works from one list. Mark a dish unavailable once and it disappears from the online menu too.

Allergens

Momo wrappers contain gluten, many curries contain milk, and some dishes use nuts or mustard oil. Write allergens on each item and in extras that add them, and keep a phone number on the page for allergy questions.

Getting more direct orders

  • Add your order link to your Google Business Profile, where most people look up a local restaurant first.
  • Print the link on menus and bags and ask delivery app customers to order direct next time.
  • Tell regulars by text or email when you add a festival dish for Dashain or Tihar.

Pricing and migration

Chefzi is £39 a month per location billed annually (£49 if billed monthly) with everything included (excluding VAT). Orders are unlimited on every plan, there is no setup fee, and we take 0% commission ever. Moving is free from any provider. If you use GloriaFood, which closes on 30 April 2027, see how to migrate from GloriaFood. Full plan details are on Chefzi pricing.

If your menu is mainly curry house dishes, the Indian restaurant page covers that style in more depth, and online ordering features explains the ordering features in full.

A typical weekend order, step by step

A customer orders 10 chicken momo jhol-style, a lamb sekuwa, a chicken tikka masala at medium heat for a family member who prefers curry house food, pilau rice, two garlic naan and a mango lassi, and books delivery for 8pm. The kitchen ticket groups momo, grill and curry items separately, so the momo steamer, the tandoor and the curry station each see their part at once.

Before you go live

  • Decide which momo fillings you offer every day and which are weekend only.
  • Agree a single spice scale across Nepalese and curry dishes so customers learn it once.
  • Check your delivery zones cover the villages you already serve by phone.

Popular UK areas: London, Reading, Oxford and Cambridge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell momo by the plate with a choice of filling and cooking style?

Yes. Set momo as one item with a required filling choice, a required style choice (steamed, fried or jhol) and a plate size. Each choice can change the price.

Can customers pick a spice level?

Yes. Add a required spice choice, such as mild, medium, hot or Nepali hot, to curries and grills. It prints on the ticket for the chef.

My menu has Indian curries too. Should I list them?

Yes. Many Nepalese restaurants in the UK serve both. Put Nepalese specialities in their own section at the top so they are easy to find.

Chefzi is £39 a month billed annually (£49 if billed monthly), with the first month free. Everything is included, with your own domain (excluding VAT). Every plan has unlimited orders, 0% commission and no setup fee, and we move your menu from your current provider for free.
