An online food ordering system with 0% commission

What an online food ordering system actually does

Strip away the jargon and an online food ordering system does four jobs:

  1. Shows your menu in a way that works on a phone, with prices, options and extras.
  2. Takes the order and the customer's details, including whether it is for collection or delivery and when they want it.
  3. Takes the money. Restaurants on the £19 plan take cash orders, including cash on delivery and cash on collection. The £29 plan adds online card payments.
  4. Gets the order to the kitchen quickly and loudly enough that nobody misses it on a busy Friday.

Everything else is a nice-to-have. When you compare systems, judge them first on those four jobs, then on what each one costs you per order over a year.

Why restaurants move ordering away from the marketplaces

Delivery marketplaces are good at finding new customers, but they charge for every order, including orders from people who already know you. If you want to see what that adds up to, our guide to Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats commission in the UK sets out the published rates, and the commission calculator lets you put in your own weekly orders.

Your own ordering system works differently. Regulars, people who find you on Google Maps and customers from your leaflets order directly, and the money goes to you rather than to a platform. Many owners keep a marketplace listing for discovery and push repeat customers to their own ordering page. That is a perfectly sensible mix, and nothing in Chefzi stops you from doing it.

How Chefzi works

Your menu, set up the way you sell

Build categories and dishes, then add the options that real orders need. Required modifiers make sure a customer picks a size or a base before they can add the item. Multi-select modifiers handle extras such as toppings, sauces and sides. If you are coming from GloriaFood, the GloriaFood menu converter and our guide to moving a GloriaFood menu without retyping it save hours of typing.

Collection and delivery, on your terms

Collection and delivery have separate opening hours, so you can start collections at 4pm and deliveries at 5pm if that is how your kitchen runs. Set your delivery zones and charges, and add holiday closures for Christmas, Eid or a family wedding so the ordering page shows you are closed instead of taking orders you cannot cook.

Orders for later

Pre-orders let customers order now for a later slot, with a lead time you choose. That helps lunchtime offices, Friday-night regulars and anyone planning a Christmas Eve order. We wrote a practical guide to Christmas opening hours and pre-orders if you want to plan ahead.

Payments

Restaurants on the £19 plan take cash orders, including cash on delivery and cash on collection. With the £29 plan you can also take online card payments through Stripe, and standard Stripe processing fees apply. Chefzi itself takes 0% commission on the order.

Kitchen alerts

New orders appear in the Chefzi kitchen app and keep alerting until someone accepts them. Our post on the kitchen tablet that rings until you answer explains why that matters.

QR table ordering

Guests scan a code at the table and order on their phone. The ticket reaches the kitchen app. Read QR table ordering.

Your website, or the one you already have

Every restaurant gets its own restaurant website with ordering built in. If you already have a site you like, use the embed widget to add ordering to it instead.

Chefzi compared with other ways of taking orders online

The table below uses prices published by each provider on 19 October 2026. Prices change, so check each provider's own page before you decide.

Some providers, including Storekit's Starter plan, also advertise £0 monthly plans; see our roundup of the best online ordering systems in the UK for the full list and how they make their money.

Chefzi's monthly fee is lower than Flipdish, Slerp and Storekit Grow on those published prices. What it does not include matters too, so the honest list is below.

What Chefzi does not do

You should know this before you sign up, not after:

  • No till or EPOS. Chefzi does not replace your till.
  • No self-service kiosk.
  • No branded app-store app. Customers order through the web on any phone, which also means there is nothing to download.
  • No loyalty points scheme.
  • No courier integrations. You deliver with your own drivers, or offer collection only. Our post on delivery zones, fees and your own drivers covers how to set that up sensibly.

If any of those is essential to you, one of the bundled providers may be a better fit, and the Flipdish alternative and Storekit alternative pages set out where each one is stronger.

How to choose an online food ordering system

Use these questions to compare any provider, including us:

  1. What will it cost per year at my order volume? Add the monthly fee, any per-order fee, any customer service fee and card processing. A £0 plan with a per-order charge can cost more than a flat fee once you are busy.
  2. Who pays the fees, me or my customer? Customer fees put people off, and they still count as part of your price in your customers' eyes.
  3. Can it handle my menu? Test a complicated item: a pizza with a required size and several toppings, or a curry with a choice of rice.
  4. Does it match how my kitchen works? Separate collection and delivery hours, holiday closures and order-ahead lead times all save stress.
  5. Am I tied in? Ask about contract length and notice periods before you start.
  6. Do I own the customer relationship? Your own ordering page means repeat customers come back to you, not to a marketplace app.

Questions

What is an online food ordering system?

It is software that lets customers choose dishes from your menu on a website and send the order straight to your kitchen. Restaurants on the £19 plan take cash orders, including cash on delivery and cash on collection. The £29 plan adds online card payments. You manage the menu, opening hours and order notifications yourself.

How much does Chefzi's online food ordering system cost?

There is no setup fee and 0% commission. The first 3 months are free, then it is £19 a month without online card payments or £29 a month with online card payments. Standard Stripe card processing fees apply.

Do my customers pay a fee per order?

Chefzi does not charge your customers a per-order service fee. Any delivery charge is the one you set yourself.

Can I take collection and delivery orders with different hours?

Yes. Collection and delivery can have separate opening hours, and you can add holiday closures so customers cannot order when you are shut.

Can customers order ahead for a later time?

Yes. Pre-orders are supported, with a lead time you choose so the kitchen is never asked for food sooner than it can cook it.

Does Chefzi include a till, kiosk or customer app?

No. Chefzi is web ordering: customers order through your ordering website in any phone or computer browser. It does not include a till, a self-service kiosk, a branded app-store app, loyalty points or courier integrations.
