A Foodhub alternative for UK takeaways: fees, contract terms and what to check before you switch

Everything about Foodhub on this page comes from Foodhub's own public pages and terms, checked on 20 October 2026. Foodhub may change its prices or terms at any time, so the sources table links to every page we used. Chefzi isn't affiliated with Foodhub.

What Foodhub actually sells

Foodhub's own timeline says it launched in 2017 as an online ordering portal for web, iOS and Android, from the team behind the Touch2Success EPOS in Stoke-on-Trent. Today its business site, foodhubforbusiness.com, lists:

  • Foodhub EPOS: a till for counter, phone and online orders, with menu, stock, payments and reports.
  • Self-service kiosks, freestanding or wall-mounted.
  • An ordering website and branded mobile app for each restaurant, managed in the My Business Hub (also called My Takeaway) app.
  • The Foodhub marketplace: a consumer website and app where your takeaway is listed next to others nearby.
  • Integrations that bring Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo orders into the Foodhub EPOS.
  • Extras such as a delivery driver app (Drive2Success), caller ID, a kitchen screen, digital menu boards and marketing campaigns.

The till hardware and much of the same software is also sold under the Touch2Success name. Touch2Success publishes identical business terms, issued by the same company, Food Hub Limited. If the till is what you're weighing up, see our Touch2Success alternative page. This page is about ordering, fees and leaving Foodhub.

Foodhub fees: what its own pages say

Foodhub doesn't publish a price list for restaurants. The partner pages ask you to request a quote. What is public is spread across the sales pages, the help centre and the terms, so we've put it in one table.

CostWhat Foodhub's pages say (20 Oct 2026)Where it's stated
Commission on your own website and app orders"commission-free model"; "Unlimited Orders at Zero commission" on the Ultimate package. The online-ordering page says "no commission on your own orders" in one paragraph and "lower commission fees" in anotherPartner page FAQ; help centre (Ultimate); online-ordering page
Weekly rental"You are required to pay weekly rentals to foodhub & datman." The amount isn't published, so check their current pricingHelp centre (Ultimate)
Card paymentsDatman is "mandatory"; Datman "charges 3.4% + 20p transaction fee on every order"Help centre (Ultimate & Essential)
Marketplace orders"a flat 50p service charge collected by Foodhub for all paid orders placed through the Foodhub Marketplace" (UK only)Sales knowledge base
Marketplace listingFree for EPOS partners; "a rental subscription for marketplace only partners; and on a commission basis for inventory partners and resellers"Partner page note
Service charge on your own siteSet by you, up to £1.50 (65p suggested), and collected by you. If your Direct Debit mandate isn't active it defaults to £0.65 and Foodhub keeps itSales knowledge base; terms clause 7.3.4
Branded app£150 setup and £5 a week (Ultimate package)Help centre (Ultimate)
Setup fee"as specified on the Agreement Form"Terms clauses 1.1.18 and 6.11
Trial"up to 8 weeks" on Ultimate. No refund on cancellation, "irrespective of the free period or post free period"Help centre (Ultimate)

Two things stand out. First, "commission-free" is about the commission on your own orders. Card fees, rental and the marketplace charge are separate, so look at all of them together. Second, the terms reserve the right to raise the menu prices shown on your Foodhub marketplace listing and keep the extra (clause 8.8). Check how your marketplace prices compare with your own menu.

What 3.4% + 20p means on a typical order

This is arithmetic on published rates, not customer data. On a £20 card order:

Card processorPublished rateFee on a £20 order
Datman (via Foodhub)3.4% + 20p88p
Stripe, standard UK cards1.5% + 20p50p
Stripe, premium UK cards2.8% + 20p76p

At 600 card orders a month of about £20, the gap between 88p and 50p is about £228 a month. Your own mix of cards and order values will differ. Use the commission calculator with your own numbers. Stripe rates are from stripe.com/gb/pricing, checked 20 October 2026.

Foodhub's contract terms, in plain English

Foodhub's business terms (dated 27 March 2026) apply to both its EPOS and its online-ordering system. The clauses that matter most when you're thinking of leaving:

  • Term (5.1): the contract starts when your website goes live and runs for an initial period of eight weeks. If you don't end it in that window, it continues "on a rolling twelve (12) month basis".
  • Ending it later (14.2): you need to give at least 30 days' written notice that expires on the last day of the current 12-month period. You also need to return the equipment, or pay for it to be collected, and clear any balance by that date. Miss one of these and the notice is void, so the contract carries on (14.3).
  • Payments (6.1, 7.1): rental is weekly in arrears by Direct Debit, and the rental figure in the terms is "inclusive of VAT".
  • Low order volumes (8.5.5): accounts that process 15 or fewer online orders a week can be restricted.
  • Domain names (11.4, 14.7.2): intellectual property "arising in the System, including any domain names", belongs to the company, and your access ends when the contract ends.

What to do with this: find your Agreement Form, note your Commencement Date, and work out when your current 12-month period ends. That date drives everything else. If you give notice too late, you could be in for another year.

Before you switch: a checklist

  1. Find the end date. Your Commencement Date plus eight weeks, then 12-month blocks. Put the notice deadline (30 days before) in your diary.
  2. Check who owns your web address. Look up the domain on a WHOIS service or ask Foodhub in writing who the registrant is. If it's Foodhub, ask whether it can be transferred to you before you give notice. If it can't, plan for a new address and a lot of link updates.
  3. Download your data. Customer list, order history and reports from My Business Hub, and your Datman statements. Note which customers agreed to receive marketing.
  4. List every link and QR code that points at your Foodhub site or app: Google, Facebook, Instagram, flyers, bags and window stickers.
  5. Plan for the equipment. If you hire a Foodhub EPOS, printer or caller ID unit, you'll need to return it. Decide what will take phone and counter orders afterwards.
  6. Set up the replacement and test it before you change any public link.
  7. Give written notice in the form the terms ask for (clause 18 lists post, courier and email), and keep proof.

Where Chefzi fits, and where it doesn't

Chefzi is built for one job: commission-free online ordering for independent UK restaurants and takeaways. It isn't an EPOS company or a marketplace.

What you get with Chefzi:

  • An ordering website for collection and delivery, SEO-friendly and fast on mobile, on a domain you connect yourself, or an embed for the site you already have.
  • Orders in real time on the Chefzi order-taking app, on a phone or tablet you already own. There's no expensive equipment to hire and no POS to buy.
  • QR table ordering and table reservations.
  • Email, SMS and branded SMS campaigns you send yourself, plus flyer marketing.
  • Help moving marketplace regulars to your own site.
  • Optional managed services: help ranking higher on Google in your local area, social media post design, and paid ads on Facebook, Instagram and Google.
  • Card payments through Stripe on the £29 plan, paid into your own Stripe account. Standard Stripe fees apply.

What Chefzi doesn't do: a till or POS, kiosks, a customer app for diners to install, loyalty, courier integrations or a consumer marketplace. The full list is on what Chefzi does not do.

Choose Foodhub if…

  • You want one supplier for the till, kiosk, caller ID and online orders, and you're happy with hire terms.
  • You want a branded app in the app stores and a listing on a consumer marketplace.
  • You need Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo orders in the same EPOS.

Choose Chefzi if…

  • You already have a till you like, or you take counter orders by hand, and you need direct online orders done properly.
  • You want to choose your card processor (Stripe) and see its published rate.
  • You want month-to-month terms and a domain you own.
  • You'd rather pay a flat £19 or £29 a month (ex VAT, per location) than a weekly rental.

How the switch works with Chefzi

  1. Book a call. Tell us your takeaway, town and current set-up.
  2. Send your menu as screenshots, a PDF or your Foodhub ordering link. We rebuild it, with no setup fee.
  3. Set your delivery zones, fees, minimums and opening hours.
  4. Install the order-taking app on the phone or tablet that will live in the kitchen, and place test orders.
  5. Run both systems side by side until your Foodhub notice date. Then switch your Google, social and QR links to the new site.

Marketplace orders placed on Just Eat or Uber Eats still pay those apps' commission, which is on average up to 25% of each order. The saving comes from orders you move onto your own site.

Frequently asked questions

Does Foodhub charge commission?

Foodhub's partner pages describe a commission-free model, and its help centre says the Ultimate package includes unlimited orders at zero commission. Its own pages also mention weekly rentals, Datman card fees of 3.4% + 20p per order and a 50p marketplace fee on Foodhub marketplace orders, and say marketplace listing is on a commission basis for some partner types. Ask Foodhub for your full fee schedule in writing.

Can I use my own card processor with Foodhub?

Not according to Foodhub's help centre on 20 October 2026. It says Datman is the payment service tied to Foodhub, that signing up with Datman is mandatory, and that Datman charges 3.4% + 20p per order.

How do I cancel a Foodhub contract?

Foodhub's business terms dated 27 March 2026 describe an initial period of eight weeks, then a rolling 12-month term. To end it after the initial period, the terms ask for at least 30 days' written notice expiring on the last day of the 12-month period, the return of any equipment and payment of any balance. Read your own agreement form, as it may differ.

Will I keep my website address if I leave Foodhub?

It depends on who registered it. Foodhub's terms say intellectual property arising in the system, including domain names, belongs to the company, and that your access ends when the contract ends. If Foodhub registered your web address, ask in writing whether it can be transferred to you before you give notice.

Is Chefzi a like-for-like replacement for Foodhub?

No. Chefzi does not sell a till, kiosk, customer app, loyalty scheme, courier integration or a marketplace. It covers online ordering for collection and delivery, a website on your own domain, QR table ordering, table reservations and an order-taking app on a phone or tablet you already have.

What does Chefzi cost?

After the free period, £19 a month per location for cash or no-card ordering, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe. Standard Stripe fees apply. Prices exclude VAT. There is no setup fee, no commission and the plan runs month to month.
