Email marketing
Updated 20 October 2026
Email campaigns you send yourself, to customers you own
In short: Chefzi lets you send email campaigns, and set up automated ones, to customers who ordered on your own site and agreed to hear from you. Every link goes to your own ordering page, where there's 0% commission.
Early Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deal: new sign-ups get 3 months free, with no setup fee. The deal ends at 23:59 on 1 December 2026.
The list you can't build on a marketplace
When someone orders through a delivery app, the app keeps the relationship. When they order on your Chefzi site and opt in, you can reach them again for free. Over a year, that list is often worth more than any single promotion.
Campaigns worth sending
- Menu news: new dishes, seasonal specials and price changes, explained honestly.
- Occasions: Christmas, Eid, Diwali, Valentine's, match nights. See our guide to Christmas opening hours and pre-orders.
- Bookings: if you take table reservations, invite past guests back for a quiet weeknight.
- A thank-you code after a first order, to win the second.
Automated emails
Set them up once and let them run:
- a welcome email after the first order
- a "we miss you" email after a set number of weeks without an order
- a birthday treat, if you collect birthdays with consent.
Good practice
- Keep it short, with one offer and one button.
- Send at mealtime decision points: late afternoon for dinner, Friday for the weekend.
- Make unsubscribing easy. It's the law, and it keeps your list healthy.
What to put in the first emails
Start with three, and write them before you switch automation on.
The welcome email goes after a first order, to someone who agreed to hear from you. Thank them, repeat how to order next time, and give one link. Do not attach a long story.
The win-back email goes after a number of weeks you choose, to someone who has not ordered. One offer, one button, and an unsubscribe link. If they have already ordered this week, they should not get it.
A birthday email only makes sense if you asked for the date and the person agreed. If you do not collect birthdays, skip it. An empty automation is better than a guess.
Menu news can be a plain campaign you send yourself: a new dish, a price change, or Christmas hours. Link the hours note to the page the customer will actually order from. Keep the subject line as plain as the message.
Check the list before a send. Take off anyone who unsubscribed, and do not buy a list. Addresses from your own checkout, with consent, are the ones this is for. Marketplace customers stay with the marketplace. A short email with one button will be read more often than a newsletter that tries to mention every dish. Send it when people are deciding dinner, not at midnight.
Email or SMS?
Email is free to send and good for longer news. Texts get noticed fast and suit same-night offers. Most restaurants use both: see SMS marketing. A wider plan is in restaurant marketing ideas.
Questions
Can I send emails myself, without an agency?
Yes. Campaigns are sent from inside your Chefzi account, whenever you like.
Are automated emails available?
Yes. Chefzi supports automated email campaigns, for example a message to customers who haven't ordered for a while.
Where do the email addresses come from?
From customers who order on your own Chefzi site and agree to hear from you. Marketplace customers' details stay with the marketplace, which is one reason direct ordering matters.
Do I need consent to email customers?
Yes. Under PECR and UK GDPR you need consent, or for existing customers a clear opt-out at sign-up and in every email. Include an unsubscribe link every time.
