# Online ordering for Cardiff takeaways and restaurants
Short answer: Cardiff's 279 takeaways work under stricter hygiene-rating rules than anywhere in England. In Wales you must display your rating at the door, and takeaways must print a bilingual statement on printed menus and leaflets that let customers order. More than a quarter of the city's takeaways are in CF24, the Cathays, Roath and Adamsdown student belt. Chefzi gives you a commission-free ordering site: 3 months free, then £19 a month for cash or no-card payments, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe.
The Welsh rules every Cardiff takeaway should know
1. Display is compulsory. Under the Food Hygiene Rating (Wales) Act 2013, you must show your current sticker in a visible place at or near each customer entrance. In England it's optional.
2. Printed menus need the bilingual statement. Since 28 November 2016, if you supply takeaway food directly to consumers, any printed publicity material that shows food, prices and a way to order without visiting must carry this statement:
> "Ewch i food.gov.uk/ratings i ganfod sgôr hylendid bwyd ein busnes neu gofynnwch inni beth yw ein sgôr hylendid bwyd wrth archebu. / Go to food.gov.uk/ratings to find out the food hygiene rating of our business or ask us for our food hygiene rating when you order"
It must be easy to see, at least 9pt Times New Roman, with at least 3mm between lines. That covers door-drop menus, takeaway leaflets and any printed QR flyer that also shows dishes and prices. You can also choose to show your actual rating on the leaflet, but only in the official format.
3. Customers can ask for your rating when they order. The statement tells them so, and your phone staff should know the answer.
Our advice: put the same bilingual statement and a link to your FSA listing on your online ordering page too. It's consistent, it's honest, and it saves customers looking it up.
Delivery zones around the Taff
Cardiff is compact: the median takeaway is 1.3 miles from the centre point and 89% are within 3 miles. What slows deliveries is the river, the railways and the big events.
- CF24 (76): Cathays, Roath, Adamsdown, Splott. Dense terraces, students and late orders. A 1 to 1.5-mile zone with a modest minimum order works well.
- CF10 (37): city centre and Cardiff Bay. On Principality Stadium event days (internationals, concerts), roads close and the centre jams for hours. Go collection-only or pause delivery to CF10 and CF11.
- CF11 and CF5 (33 and 39): Grangetown, Riverside, Canton, Ely. West of the Taff. If you're based east of the river, give these a separate fee because bridges add time.
- CF14 and CF23 (44 and 17): Whitchurch, Llanishen, Heath, Cyncoed, Pentwyn. Suburban family orders, bigger baskets, and a good fit for free delivery over a set order value.
- CF3 (20): Rumney and St Mellons. On the eastern edge. Price it as an outer zone.
Set fees and minimum orders per district in Chefzi delivery zones, and switch to collection-only on event days from the kitchen app.
Late-night refreshment
The Licensing Act 2003 applies in Wales as in England. Serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am needs a premises licence covering late night refreshment, from Cardiff Council's licensing team. Match your online ordering hours to your licence.
How Chefzi helps Cardiff owners

When you print QR flyers or menus that point to your Chefzi ordering page, add the Welsh bilingual statement. Moving from GloriaFood before it closes on 30 April 2027? We'll move your menu for you.
