Tacos with lime and fresh toppings on a board

Updated 27 October 2026 · By Arslan Munir

UK Mexican food is mostly an assembly-line trade: burritos, bowls, tacos and quesadillas built from the same set of fillings, rice, beans, salsas and toppings. That suits online ordering well, because the customer does the building and the kitchen just follows the ticket. Chefzi puts that ordering on your own website with no commission.

Turn the counter line into option steps

The counter in a burrito shop already runs in steps. Copy that order online so the ticket reads the same way your team builds it.

  1. Format. Burrito, bowl, three tacos, quesadilla or salad. Each is its own item with its own base price.
  2. Filling. Required, pick one: for example chicken, steak, pulled pork, chilli beef or a vegetable option.
  3. Rice and beans. Required choices, with "no rice" as a free option for customers watching portions.
  4. Salsas. Pick up to three, with heat levels written in the name, such as "Salsa roja (hot)".
  5. Extras. Guacamole, sour cream, cheese, jalapeños and double meat, each with a price.

Keep the same option groups on burritos, bowls and tacos, so a customer who switches format does not have to relearn the steps, and so your kitchen screen always lists items in the same order.

Sides, meal deals and drinks

Nachos, tortilla chips with dips, churros and agua fresca or bottled drinks are natural add-ons. A meal deal can bundle a main, a side and a drink at a set price. Show it as a separate item so the price is clear and the kitchen sees exactly which side was chosen.

Lunch trade and collection slots

Many burrito shops earn most of their weekday takings between 12 and 2. Two settings help:

  • Scheduled collection. Customers order mid-morning for a set pickup time, and the order lands on the kitchen screen ahead of the rush.
  • Prep time by day. Raise the quoted prep time during lunch so customers arrive when food is ready rather than queueing at the counter.

For evening trade, online ordering features covers delivery too. Draw delivery zones around the area your own drivers cover, with a fee and minimum order for each.

Eat-in orders from the table

If you have seating, QR table ordering lets guests order from their phone at the table. The order goes to the same kitchen queue as online and counter orders, with the table number on the ticket.

One till for counter, phone and web

Chefzi POS is a free browser till included in your plan. Counter orders, phone orders and web orders all sit in one queue, and when the steak runs out you mark it unavailable once. It runs on a tablet, laptop or phone you already have.

Allergens and dietary labels

Mexican menus are often gluten-light but not gluten-free, because flour tortillas, some sauces and fried items share oil. Label vegetarian and vegan fillings, write allergens such as milk in cheese and sour cream, and keep a phone number on the page for allergy questions.

Getting customers to order direct

  • Add your order link to your Google Business Profile and Instagram bio, where many customers find burrito shops.
  • Put the web address and a QR code on bags and counter cards.
  • Send a short text or email when you add a limited filling, so regulars have a reason to order again.

Use the commission calculator to see how much a month of delivery app orders costs you compared with orders on your own page.

Pricing and moving over

Chefzi is £39 a month per location billed annually (£49 if billed monthly) with everything included (excluding VAT). Orders are unlimited on every plan, with 0% commission and no setup fee. We rebuild your menu from any current provider for free, including the option steps. If you are on GloriaFood, it closes on 30 April 2027, so moving early gives you time to test. Full details are on Chefzi pricing.

If your menu leans more towards loaded fries and smash burgers, see the burger page.

A typical lunch order, step by step

At 11.40am an office worker orders a steak burrito with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, salsa verde and guacamole, plus a chicken bowl for a colleague, and picks 12.30pm collection. The order lands on the line in the same step order your team builds in. At 12.30 the bag is waiting by the till with a name on it, and the customer skips the queue that has built up at the counter.

Questions to settle before you go live

  • Which fillings run out most often, and who marks them unavailable during service?
  • Will guacamole and extra meat be priced the same on burritos, bowls and tacos?
  • Do you want a lunch-only meal deal, and which hours should it show?

Popular UK areas: London, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and Edinburgh.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers build a burrito step by step?

Yes. Make the burrito one item with required steps for filling, rice and beans, then optional salsas and paid extras such as guacamole or extra cheese. Each step can be limited, for example "choose up to three toppings".

Can the same build work for bowls and tacos?

Yes. Copy the option groups across burrito, bowl and taco items so the steps match, and change only the base price.

Can office workers pre-order lunch?

Yes. Customers can schedule a collection time, so a lunch order placed at 10am can be ready for 12:30.
