This hub lists work that is already published, with the source and the day it was pulled. It does not include customer counts, savings, or review scores. A UK-wide hygiene ranking is not published here. Each council page stands on its own extract.

Methodology

The counts are from the Food Standards Agency food hygiene rating open data, pulled on 19 October 2026. A takeaway is a business whose FSA type is “Takeaway/sandwich shop”. Restaurants, cafés and canteens are counted separately, under that type. A percentage uses businesses that already have a rating. Businesses awaiting inspection stay in the count, and out of the percentage. Nation and region benchmarks are totals from that same extract. Where a council area is also the nation, as in Wales and Northern Ireland, the second comparison is England.

Cuisine rows on a city page match keywords in the business name. Many names match none, so those rows are an estimate, not a census. Scotland uses the Food Hygiene Information Scheme, so a Pass there is not a 5. This page does not rank one council against another.

“Takeaway” means the FSA business type “Takeaway/sandwich shop”. Cuisine splits on the city pages are a name-keyword estimate, not a census. England, Wales and Northern Ireland use the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Scotland uses the Food Hygiene Information Scheme, so a Pass there is not a 5. London is not in this list. The FSA splits London across 33 councils, and borough pages are not published here. The London page has the 33-council total from the 19 October 2026 extract.
