How to move your Just Eat regulars to your own website

By Arslan Munir

In short: Your regulars are already loyal to you, not the app. Give them a better reason to order direct: an easy ordering page on your own domain, a first-order thank-you that fits your contract, and reminders at every touchpoint you control. Do it gradually and keep the apps for new customers until direct orders take over.

Early Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deal: new sign-ups get 3 months free, with no setup fee. The deal ends at 23:59 on 1 December 2026.

Step 1: know your number

Look at a month's statement and work out what the apps really took: commission, service fees, marketing charges and VAT. Then put it into the commission calculator. Delivery apps take on average up to 25% of each order, but your statement is the real figure. See what the delivery apps charge.

Step 2: read your contract first

Check two things in your partner terms: price parity (whether your own-site prices and offers must match the app) and marketing restrictions (whether you can market to customers who ordered through the app). Build your plan around what's allowed.

Step 3: make direct ordering easier than the app

  • An ordering page on your own domain that loads fast on a phone.
  • Cash on collection and delivery, and card payments if you want them.
  • Saved details for repeat orders.
  • Clear delivery zones and fees: see delivery zones and your own drivers.

Step 4: use the touchpoints you own

  • Phone orders: "You can also order on yourtakeaway.co.uk next time."
  • Walk-ins and collection: a counter QR code and a card in the bag.
  • Google: an Order online link on Google pointing to your site, not an app.
  • Social media: your bio link goes to your own menu.

Step 5: give a reason, then keep in touch

A small first-order thank-you on your own site, such as a free side, gives regulars a reason to switch, as long as your contract allows it. Once they opt in, a monthly SMS or email brings them back at almost no cost.

What to say, in one sentence

On the phone: “You can order the same menu on your own site next time.” At the counter: the QR code, tested, on a card you are allowed to hand over. On Google: the order link points at your site. In the bio: the same URL. You do not need a different offer in every place. You need the same easy page, repeated where you already speak to the customer.

Do not put that card in a marketplace bag if the partner terms restrict it. Bags for phone orders, walk-ins and your own site are the safe ones. Read the agreement before you print a stack.

Step 6: track it monthly

Each month, compare the number of direct orders with app orders. When direct orders are a large, steady share, you can review whether to cut app opening hours, raise app prices (where your contract allows) or leave. For more ideas, see ways to reduce delivery-app commission.

Questions

Can I put a leaflet in my Just Eat bags?

Check your partner agreement first. Some marketplace terms restrict marketing to customers who ordered through them. Bags for phone, walk-in and own-site orders are always fair game.

Can I charge less on my own website than on Just Eat?

It depends on your contract. Just Eat's Your Price Promise covers prices, discounts, offers, delivery charges and minimums on your own site, unless you have agreed otherwise. Read your terms before cutting prices.

Should I leave Just Eat completely?

Not necessarily. Many takeaways keep the apps for discovery and grow direct orders from regulars. Decide once direct orders are a big enough share.

How much do I save per order moved?

On average, delivery apps take up to 25% of an order once commission and fees are added. Put your own rates into our commission calculator to see your number.
