How to add an "Order online" link to your Google Business Profile
Updated 19 October 2026 · Arslan Munir
For many local takeaways, the Google Business Profile is the busiest shop window they have. People search your name or "takeaway near me", see your profile on Search or Maps, and tap the ordering button. If that button leads to a marketplace, the order costs you commission. If it leads to an old GloriaFood page, it'll stop working after 30 April 2027. If it leads to your own ordering page, the order is yours.
This guide covers adding your own link, making it the preferred option, removing links you didn't approve, and checking it works. The steps follow Google's own help pages, checked on the date at the bottom. Google changes its menus from time to time, so the labels may move slightly.
What appears on your profile, and where it comes from
There are two kinds of ordering link on a restaurant's profile:
- Links you add yourself. Google calls these "Place an order" links. They can go to your website or your ordering page.
- Links from third-party providers. Google says providers that state they have an authorised relationship with your business can be listed automatically, and their availability is updated by those providers.
Depending on the country, these show under an "Order online" button or as separate "Place an order" links. Either way, you control the links you add and which one is marked preferred.
Before you start
- Have your profile verified and make sure you can manage it (owner or manager access).
- Have your ordering link ready. With Chefzi, that's your hosted ordering page (for example
yourname.chefzi.co.uk) or the ordering page on your own domain. Open it on your phone first to check the menu, prices and hours are right. - Decide what the link is for. Google keeps menu links and ordering links separate. A menu link helps people read the menu; an ordering link is for placing an order. You can have both.
Step 1: Add your ordering link
On Google Search (signed in as the profile manager, search for your business name):
- Go to your Business Profile.
- Select Food ordering. On some profiles the option is Pick-up and delivery.
- Select Add link, or Add another link if links already exist.
- Paste your ordering URL.
- Select Save.
On Google Maps (app):
- Open your Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then the ordering option.
- Select Add link, paste the URL and select Save.
Google allows up to 10 links per category, so you don't need to remove marketplace links to add your own.
Step 2: Set your link as preferred
If more than one ordering option shows, you can tell Google which one you prefer:
- Go to your Business Profile and select Food ordering.
- Select your link from the list.
- Select Set as preferred.
- Turn on Preferred for collection, Preferred for delivery, or both.
- Select Save.
You can only turn on collection or delivery for a link whose provider offers it. If you only do collection through your own page, set it as preferred for collection.
Step 3: Remove links you didn't approve
If a third-party link appears that you didn't ask for, or that leads to a service you've left:
- Go to Food ordering.
- Select the provider or link.
- Select Remove link.
Google says that once a business makes a request, providers must remove third-party links within five working days. If one doesn't, use Google's option to report a violation.
If you're leaving a marketplace, remove its link once your agreement has ended, so customers aren't sent to a closed listing.
Step 4: Don't switch everything off by accident
There's a switch in Food ordering called Accept orders on your profile. Google says that if you turn it off, all ordering options and links are hidden, including the ones you added. If your button has disappeared, check this first.
Step 5: Check it as a customer would
Use your phone with mobile data rather than the shop Wi-Fi, ideally signed out of the account that manages the profile:
- Search your business name on Google. Does the ordering button or link appear?
- Open Google Maps, find your shop and check again.
- Tap your link. Does it open the right menu, with the right prices and today's hours?
- Place a small test order and check the kitchen app receives it.
Edits can take a while to appear. If the link doesn't show straight away, check again later rather than adding it twice.
Step 6: Measure what the link brings
To see how many orders come from Google, add tracking parameters to the link you paste. For example:
https://yourname.chefzi.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp_orderIf your website analytics reads UTM parameters, visits from that link show up as Google Business Profile traffic. Use a different utm_campaign for your menu link so you can tell them apart.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The button goes to an old GloriaFood page | An old custom link | Remove it and add your new link before 30 April 2027 |
| A marketplace shows as the main option | It's marked preferred, or no preference is set | Set your own link as preferred for collection and/or delivery |
| No ordering options at all | "Accept orders on your profile" is off | Turn it back on in Food ordering |
| Link opens the wrong location | You have more than one shop | Add each location's own ordering link to its own profile |
| A provider you never used is listed | It says it has an authorised relationship | Remove the link and report a violation if it isn't removed within five working days |
Keep hours and links in step
Your ordering link is only as good as the hours next to it. Over bank holidays, set special hours on Google as well as on your ordering page. See the Christmas opening hours checklist.
If you're moving off GloriaFood, this is one step in the migration checklist. If you're keeping a marketplace for new customers and moving regulars to your own page, read the Just Eat alternative guide.
Chefzi gives you an ordering page you can link from Google from day one: £0 for three months, then £19 a month for cash or no-card payments, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe per location excluding VAT, with 0% commission.
Questions
How do I add my own ordering link to Google?
In your Google Business Profile, select Food ordering (on Google Search) or Edit profile and the ordering option (on Google Maps), then Add link, paste your ordering page URL and save. Google lets you add up to 10 links per category.
Can I make my own link the default instead of Just Eat or Deliveroo?
Yes. In Food ordering, select your link and choose Set as preferred. You can mark it preferred for collection, for delivery, or both.
How do I remove a third-party ordering link from my profile?
In Food ordering, select the provider and choose Remove link. Google says providers must remove third-party links within five working days of a request, and you can report a violation if they don't.
Why did all the ordering options disappear from my profile?
Check whether 'Accept orders on your profile' has been turned off in Food ordering. Google says turning it off hides all ordering options and links, including ones you added.
Can I have more than one ordering link on Google?
Yes. Google allows up to 10 links per category, so your own ordering link can sit alongside marketplace links. Set your own as preferred so it's the one Google favours for collection or delivery.
