Deliveroo alternative for UK restaurants and takeaways

Deliveroo brings you customers who'd never have found you otherwise. For many restaurants that's worth paying for. The cost is commission on every order, including from people who already know you and would happily order from you directly.

The practical answer for most restaurants isn't "quit Deliveroo". It's to keep Deliveroo for discovery and give regulars your own ordering page, without breaking your Deliveroo terms.

Disclosure: Chefzi made this page. Deliveroo facts come from its public UK partner terms and partner pages, checked 19 October 2026. This isn't legal advice. Read your own agreement.

What Deliveroo charges

Deliveroo's partner page says it charges "a simple commission on completed orders". It doesn't publish a standard UK percentage there. Its Delivery Service terms describe the fee as "a percentage of GMV (inclusive of VAT) per order, plus VAT". Your actual rate depends on the service you use (Deliveroo riders, Marketplace+ with your own riders, or Pickup) and is set in your agreement. Look at a recent statement to find your effective rate, then use the commission calculator.

Three clauses to know before you promote your own ordering

1. Prices should match your in-store menu

Deliveroo's UK terms say: "the prices for the menu items you provide for display on the Platform should be the same as the prices for menu items published in your dine-in or in-store menu." They add that if a customer shows that, without reference to promotional offers, the in-store price is lower, "we will refund the difference to the customer and deduct an amount equal to the refund from the payment we make to you".

What that means in practice:

  • Don't make your in-store or printed menu cheaper than your Deliveroo menu.
  • The terms we read compare Deliveroo with your dine-in or in-store menu, and don't mention your own website. Your contract may say more, so check it. The simplest safe approach is the same prices everywhere.
  • Separately, Deliveroo's Value Programme scores your "price mark-up" against dine-in prices, so a large mark-up can affect your standing on the platform.

2. Customer data from Deliveroo is for that order only

"You must not access or use any Order Info for any purpose other than the fulfilment of the Delivery Service order to which it relates." So don't text or email Deliveroo customers about your website, and don't add them to a mailing list.

3. Notice period

The Delivery Service and Marketplace+ terms run "until terminated by either party giving 30 days' written notice".

A compliant plan for your own orders

  1. Same menu prices on Deliveroo, in-store and on your own site.
  2. Win direct orders where people already look for you: your Google Business Profile, your website, Instagram and your shopfront.
  3. Give a reason to order direct that isn't price: faster collection, items you can't fit on the app, or simply supporting a local business.
  4. Build your own list properly. Ask direct customers for marketing consent at checkout or under the soft opt-in rules, never from Deliveroo data.
  5. Use your own drivers for direct orders, with delivery zones that set fees and minimums by area.

Options for your own ordering channel

  • Chefzi: £0 for three months, then £19 a month for cash or no-card payments, or £29 a month with online card payments through Stripe per location excluding VAT, with 0% commission and no contract. You get an ordering site and website, an Android kitchen app that rings until answered (with SMS and phone-call alerts if it goes offline), delivery zones, QR table ordering, card payments, receipts and marketing tools such as QR codes and one link for everywhere. We move the menu.
  • Storekit: a free Starter plan plus a flat per-order rate, with Uber Direct couriers included.
  • Flipdish: a website and ordering package from £49 a month billed annually. As shown on flipdish.com on 19 October 2026. The point-of-sale page also shows an essential package from £119 a month billed annually, or £139 a month if billed monthly (ex. VAT).
  • Square Online: a free plan, with card fees from 1.4% + 25p.

When Deliveroo is still the better choice

  • You're new and nobody searches for you by name yet. Discovery matters more than margin.
  • You have no drivers. Deliveroo's rider network handles delivery for you.
  • Most of your customers are app-first and wouldn't order any other way.
  • Your margins can absorb the commission on the extra orders it brings.

For most restaurants the answer is both: Deliveroo for new customers, and your own page for everyone who already knows you.

How much could direct orders save?

Deliveroo does not publish a standard UK commission rate, so this page does not invent one. Put the rate from your Deliveroo statement into the commission calculator. On Chefzi, direct orders have no commission from Chefzi beyond the £19 or £29 monthly fee. Standard Stripe card processing fees apply on the card plan.

Questions

Do I have to leave Deliveroo to use Chefzi?

No. Many restaurants keep Deliveroo for customers who discover them there and use their own ordering page for regulars. Deliveroo's fees still apply to Deliveroo orders.

Can my own website be cheaper than Deliveroo?

Deliveroo's UK partner terms (last updated 14 January 2021) say menu prices on Deliveroo should be the same as your dine-in or in-store menu, and if a customer shows a lower in-store price, excluding promotions, Deliveroo refunds the difference and deducts it from your payment. Check your own agreement. The simplest compliant approach is to keep the same menu prices across your channels.

Can I contact Deliveroo customers about my website?

Not using data from Deliveroo. Its terms say you must not use Order Info for any purpose other than fulfilling the order it relates to. Build your own list from customers who order directly and agree to hear from you.

How much notice does Deliveroo need?

The UK Delivery Service and Marketplace+ terms continue until either party gives 30 days' written notice. Your agreement may differ, so check it.

What does Deliveroo charge?

Deliveroo's partner page says it charges a commission on completed orders but doesn't publish a standard UK rate. Its terms describe the fee as a percentage of order value (including VAT), plus VAT. Your rate is in your agreement.
