Replacing GloriaFood dine-in QR ordering: codes, table numbers and payment

By Arslan Munir

A QR code tent on a restaurant table

Table cards are easy to forget. They aren't in your website settings or on your Facebook page. They sit in holders on tables, laminated, sometimes stuck down. The menu moves, the payments move, and then a guest at table 7 scans a card that opens a menu nobody is watching.

This page covers that one job: moving dine-in QR ordering. For the full timeline, start with the GloriaFood shutdown guide, or see Chefzi vs GloriaFood if you're still choosing. Chefzi isn't affiliated with GloriaFood or Oracle.

When the codes stop

Oracle's GloriaFood end-of-life FAQ (checked 24 October 2026) gives 30 April 2027 as the end-of-life date. Your services end on the expiry date of your subscription renewal, somewhere between 1 and 30 April 2027, unless you cancel earlier. After that you can retrieve your data for 30 days.

The same FAQ says the GloriaFood online ordering integration with Oracle Simphony stops working after the end-of-life date. If your dine-in orders flow from GloriaFood into a Simphony till today, that link ends too. Chefzi is not a till. Table orders arrive in the Chefzi app, so plan where staff will read them before you switch.

Which GloriaFood set-up do you have?

GloriaFood has offered two ways to take orders from seated guests, and it matters which one you use, because it changes how many new cards you need.

The older Dine-In QR Code. GloriaFood's tableside ordering guide describes switching this on under Setup, Publishing, Dine-In QR Code, then choosing a flyer colour and downloading or emailing it for printing. One code goes on every table. The guest scans, adds items, enters contact details, types in their table number and picks a payment method.

The newer On premise service. GloriaFood's June 2024 update added an "On premise" service, switched on under Admin, Setup, Services & opening hours. Codes are made under Marketing Tools, QR codes & Flyers. You can generate one code for everything or a range, for example tables 1 to 6, which gives each table its own code with the number already filled in. The codes download as a PDF, with an option to add a flyer design.

If you print one shared card for the whole room, you are on the first set-up. If each card carries its own number, you are probably on the second. Check before you order printing.

Write down your dine-in settings first

Before you build anything in Chefzi, copy these from the GloriaFood admin while you can still log in:

SettingWhere it lives in GloriaFoodWhat to note
Code typePublishing or Marketing ToolsOne shared code, or a numbered range
Table numbersThe range you setEvery number in use, including outside tables
Dine-in menuMenu setupItems you sell to seated guests but not for delivery, and the reverse
PaymentPayment, taxes & legalCash, card at the table, or online payment
HoursServices & opening hoursWhether dine-in hours differ from collection and delivery
Printed cardsYour shelf, not the adminHow many holders, stickers and menus carry a code

The hours row is covered in detail in moving GloriaFood opening hours. It's the one most often wrong after a switch.

How the same job works in Chefzi

QR table ordering in Chefzi is built for people already sitting down. The steps are short:

  1. One code per table. Each table has its own code. There's no shared card and no box for the guest to type a table number into.
  2. Scan and stay in the browser. The guest opens the menu on their phone. There's nothing for them to install.
  3. The ticket carries the table. The order reaches the Chefzi app tagged with the table number, so the pass knows where it goes.
  4. Same app as delivery and collection. Table tickets land on the phone or tablet you already use for online orders. If you are still deciding how that device works in the kitchen, see replace the GloriaFood order-taking app.

The menu can be the one you already sell online, with items switched on or off for the table channel. If you still have to bring your GloriaFood menu across, do that first: move a GloriaFood menu without retyping it. A dish that runs out mid-service should be marked sold out before a guest pays for it, not after the ticket prints.

Payment at the table

This is the setting to decide on purpose, not by habit.

  • £19 plan: Chefzi can take an online card payment through Stripe before the order fires. Standard Stripe fees apply. If you took online payments in GloriaFood, the steps for connecting Stripe are in move GloriaFood card payments to Stripe.
  • £9 plan: restaurants take cash orders. Decide how staff will collect payment from a table that ordered on their phone, and brief the floor before the first service.

Either way, Chefzi adds no commission to the order.

A paid-before-it-fires order changes how the room runs. The kitchen can cook as soon as the ticket arrives, and nobody chases a bill at the end. An unpaid order needs a person to match the table to the money. Pick the model your team can run on a full Saturday, not the one that looks neater on paper.

Print and test the new cards

The live table ordering page has a plain rule: a table number on the ticket only helps if the code on table 4 really is table 4.

  1. Print one card per table, plus two or three spares for the table that always loses its card.
  2. Label the back of each card with its table number in pen before it goes in a holder. It saves a muddle when a card gets moved.
  3. Walk the room with your own phone. Scan every card, place a small test order and check the number on the ticket matches the table you're standing at.
  4. Test from a second phone on mobile data, not only your Wi-Fi, so you know a guest without your network can still order.
  5. Swap all the cards in one go, before a service, not during one. Two live sets of codes on the same night is how one table gets missed.

Codes that point at your general ordering page, on the window, the counter, takeaway bags or flyers, are a different job. They are covered in replace the GloriaFood ordering button, which also lists where those links hide.

Ordering at the table versus booking a table

GloriaFood keeps table reservations as a separate service, and so does Chefzi. A QR order is food for someone already seated. A reservation is a request to sit down later, which you confirm. Chefzi table reservations arrive in the same Chefzi app as orders.

If you take bookings and QR orders on the same night, the reservation side is where you cap covers per slot. The QR code does not cap the room by itself. Moving the booking side is covered in replace GloriaFood table reservations.

What Chefzi does not do here

So that nothing surprises you on the night:

  • It is not a till and not a kiosk. There is no screen to buy for each table.
  • There is no customer app in a store. Guests use the browser.
  • It is not built for ordering from anywhere other than a restaurant table. GloriaFood's on premise service also covered other kinds of venue; Chefzi does not.
  • Sold out works on a dish, not on a single modifier.

The full list is on what Chefzi does not do.

The switch-over day

Pick a quiet service. Set up the Chefzi menu and table codes, run the test walk above, then take the old GloriaFood cards off every table and put the new ones out. Keep GloriaFood running for delivery and collection until those links have moved too, and retrieve the reports you want inside the 30-day window. How to save them is in moving GloriaFood receipts and reports. The full checklist, with the order to do things in, is on migrate from GloriaFood.

Frequently asked questions

Will my GloriaFood table QR codes keep working after the switch?

No. A GloriaFood dine-in code opens the GloriaFood ordering menu, so it stops taking orders when your GloriaFood account ends, at the latest on 30 April 2027. Every table card needs a new Chefzi code, and the old cards should come off the tables on the same day.

Does the Chefzi ticket show the table number?

Yes. Each table gets its own code, and the order reaches the Chefzi app tagged with that table number, so the guest does not have to type it in.

Do guests need to download anything to order at the table?

No. They scan the code with their phone camera and order in the browser. There is no customer app to install.

Can guests pay by card at the table?

On the £19 plan, Chefzi can take an online card payment through Stripe before the order fires. Restaurants on the £9 plan take cash. Chefzi adds no commission to a table order.

Do I need a tablet on every table or a new till?

No. Guests use their own phones and the order arrives in the Chefzi app on the phone or tablet you already have in the kitchen. Chefzi is not a till or a kiosk, and there is no extra hardware to buy.
