Move card payments off GloriaFood onto your own Stripe account

By Arslan Munir

This post covers payments only. For menus, domains and buttons, see the full GloriaFood migration checklist. The wider timetable is on what UK restaurants should do as GloriaFood shuts down. Chefzi vs GloriaFood and the GloriaFood alternative set out the rest of the product.

Early Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deal: new sign-ups get 3 months free, with no setup fee. The deal ends at 23:59 on 1 December 2026.

What ends, and when

Oracle's GloriaFood end-of-life FAQ (March 2026) sets out the timetable:

  • 30 April 2027: GloriaFood products and services end, including the Online Ordering service and Oracle Payment eStore Cloud Service.
  • No new Oracle Payment sign-ups. Oracle Payment is on the list of services that cannot be added to an account any more.
  • Monthly renewals can end early. Paid online-ordering services follow their normal 30-day term. Oracle's own example is a third-party online payments service renewed on 3 March 2027: it runs to 3 April 2027 and then stops. Renewals and new orders are only accepted until one month before 30 April 2027.
  • Cancelling early. Online Ordering paid services can be cancelled in the GloriaFood admin panel, and you keep access until the next renewal date. For Oracle Payment, Oracle asks you to request early termination through chat in your account portal.
  • Your data. After the service ends, Oracle says you can retrieve your data for 30 days.

If you rely on GloriaFood's card connector, the date that matters is your last renewal, not only 30 April. Set up the replacement before that renewal.

The two Chefzi plans

The £19 a month plan takes cash, including cash on delivery and cash on collection. There is no online card form on that plan.

The £29 a month plan adds card payments at checkout. The payment goes through Stripe, on the restaurant's own Stripe account. Standard Stripe fees apply. Those fees are Stripe's, not a Chefzi commission. Chefzi still takes 0% of the order. Prices are per location and exclude VAT. There is no setup fee. The full list is on pricing and on cash or card payments.

How the restaurant connects Stripe

The restaurant does this itself, from the Chefzi portal. A restaurant can use an existing Stripe account with this API-key method, including the account it used with GloriaFood. You do this yourself. Chefzi does not create or hold your Stripe account.

  1. Open the restaurant's Stripe account, or create one that belongs to the restaurant.
  2. In that Stripe account, copy the API keys: the publishable key and the secret key.
  3. In the Chefzi portal, open payments and paste both keys.
  4. Save. Card payments at checkout use those keys. The publishable key is the one that starts with pk_. The secret key is the one that starts with sk_.

That is the whole connection. The restaurant enters the keys.

If you later roll (replace) the secret key in Stripe, paste the new key into the Chefzi portal, or card payments will stop.

Take one low-value test order on a phone and accept it only when the ticket shows paid. Card numbers are not stored on the phone or tablet. The kitchen sees paid, cash, or failed. Refund that test from your Stripe Dashboard so you have seen both directions.

Stripe's published UK card fees

From Stripe's UK pricing page, checked 20 October 2026. Stripe describes these as pay-as-you-go rates with no setup fee from Stripe:

Card typeStripe's published fee per successful charge
Standard UK cards1.5% + 20p
Premium UK cards2.8% + 20p
European Economic Area cards2.5% + 20p
Other international cards3.15% + 20p
Currency conversion, if needed+2%
Dispute received£20.00

On a £25 order paid with a standard UK card, that is 37.5p + 20p, so about 58p. These are Stripe's fees. Chefzi does not add a percentage on top. The source is stripe.com/gb/pricing.

The order to switch

  1. Decide whether the shop needs cards. Cash-only stays on the £19 plan. Cards need the £29 plan and the restaurant's own Stripe keys.
  2. Paste the publishable key and the secret key in the Chefzi portal, as above. Use the existing Stripe account if the restaurant already has one, including the account it used with GloriaFood.
  3. Place a real test order with your own card, then refund it in Stripe.
  4. Run both systems until a real order has been accepted on Chefzi, then replace the GloriaFood ordering button and the other links.
  5. Turn off card payments in GloriaFood before the connector's next renewal.
  6. Download the GloriaFood data while the account still allows it. Oracle's FAQ says the window is 30 days after the service ends.

Do not expire the secret key that Chefzi is using. If you retire the key you had given GloriaFood, and that is the same key now pasted into Chefzi, paste the replacement into the portal in the same step.

What the kitchen sees

Orders arrive in the Chefzi app on a phone or tablet you already own. Each ticket shows paid, cash, or failed before anyone starts cooking. Card numbers are not stored on the device.

An order the system rejects can be refunded automatically. If staff reject an order by hand, refund it from the Stripe Dashboard. Put that on the closing checklist. There is more on how Chefzi takes payments.

A failed card should show as failed before the kitchen starts the order. Do not cook a ticket you cannot see as paid or as cash.

Frequently asked questions

How does a restaurant connect Stripe?

From the Chefzi portal, the restaurant pastes the API keys from its own Stripe account: the publishable key and the secret key. An existing Stripe account works with this method, including the account the restaurant used with GloriaFood. You do this yourself. Chefzi does not create or hold your Stripe account.

Which plan takes cards?

The £29 a month plan. The £19 plan is cash and no-card payments, including cash on delivery and cash on collection. It has no online card form.

Who charges the card fee?

Stripe does. Standard Stripe fees apply. Chefzi does not add a fee on top and does not take a commission on the order.

Will GloriaFood card payments stop?

Oracle's end-of-life FAQ says GloriaFood products and services end on 30 April 2027, including Oracle Payment. A monthly paid service can end at its last renewal before that date.

What if the secret key changes later?

If you roll the secret key in Stripe, paste the new key into the Chefzi portal. Until you do, card payments stop.
